ZANZIBAR ISLAND – known locally as Unguja – is part of the Zanzibar archipelago of islands that include the Pemba Islands and several islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast and covers an area of 565 square miles.
This sun-drenched isle is the home of endless sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs and clear blue waters. For the island adventurer, Zanzibar offers some of the world’s finest snorkeling and diving grounds, fantastic deep sea fishing and numerous water sports activities.
For those seeking a more relaxed pace, wander along the narrow winding streets of historic Stone Town with its vivid markets and colorful bazaars, or take in the cultural remnants left by one of the world’s largest slave trading post. Then there’s always relaxing at the beach or frolicking on the turquoise shore of Zanzibar’s many beautiful beaches. Commonly known as the ‘Spice island’, Zanzibar is famous for spices such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom, pepper and others. Spice tours are also a popular excursion.
If you plan to take in an excursion to Zanzibar, please be advised that this place is of Muslim majority and long dresses are strongly recommended. Try to avoid clothes that show too much of your body, or skin-tight clothes unless you are at the beach.
There are many different accommodation options to choose from. Please contact us for more info on different options and pricing.
