| Things to do |
Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja) is part of the Zanzibar archipelago of islands that include the Pemba Islands, and several islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast, and covers an area of 1464 sq km.
This sun-drenched isle is the home of endless sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, and clear blue waters. For the island adventurer, Zanzibar offers some of the world's finest snorkelling and diving grounds, fantastic deep sea fishing and numerous water sports activities.
For those seeking a more relaxed pace, wander along the narrow winding streets of historic Stone Town with its vivid markets and colourful bazaars, or take in the cultural remnants left by one of the worlds largest salve trading post. Then there's always relaxing at the beach or frolicking in the turquoise shore of Zanzibar's many beautiful beaches. Commonly known as the "Spice lsland"; Zanzibar is famous for spices such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom, peper and others. Spice tours are also a popular excursion. |
